Mika & Associates, PC Office Location in Colorado Springs

The craftsman-style house at 630 N. Tejon that holds the offices of Mika & Associates is recorded to have been built in 1886. It is conveniently located in the City’s historic business district, on the corner of Tejon and Monument Streets.

According to the Directory of Colorado Springs, published by S.N. Francis, the first resident of the house was a carriage painter named Mr. Frank W. Marvin. In 1909, the R.L. Polk Directory listed Mr. Marvin’s wife as still residing at the house. The next record of the property lists a Mr. J.A. Hull and his wife Helen as owners of the home. Mr. Hull served as a Director of Grand River Valley RY Public Utilities under one of the prominent City founders, Mr. Spencer Penrose.

The region around 630 North Tejon Street was very much a part of the early development of the City of Colorado Springs, including the nearby Colorado College. The College’s first building, Cutler Hall was occupied in 1880, and the school first conferred bachelor’s degrees in 1882. The College has grown to occupy multiple City blocks, and has become a well-respected academic institution.

630 N. Tejon sits across the street from another of the City’s landmark buildings: the Late English Gothic-style grand structure that is now Grace and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church built in 1929.

Mika Land and Property purchased the building in 1998 from noted land developer and former City land manager, Nolan Shreiner. The firm has assumed the stewardship role of the building, and has performed renovations, with a sensitivity to maintaining its original features. Many of the rooms, including the lobby and main conference room, were furnished with antiques from the building’s early period. The building promises a comfortable setting for clients and visiting professionals. Most recently, the firm erected a stone and wrought-iron wall around the perimeter of the front of the property. The design of the new structure was selected to be consistent with the history of the former house and its surrounding buildings, including Grace Episcopal Church. To serve the firm’s disabled clients, the firm provides a handicap ramp, which is accessible from the parking lot on the northwest side of the building.
